Our Culture

“Cul-ture – the behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought, esp. as expressed in a particular community or period.”

The culture at MKK surrounds our employees, our community, and our profession. Employees are our greatest asset. We strive to balance the professional workplace with an appreciation of the personal side of life. We recognize that our employees work hard and feel that supporting activities outside of the work place are crucial to well-balanced employees.

Having fun together on a more personal level outside of the office helps strengthen our team. MKK’s “fun at work” committee sponsors celebrations throughout the year such as picnics, ski trips, after work gatherings, monthly birthday cakes, and holiday parties. The company also sponsors designer-league volleyball teams in the summer.

We have committees that address other important aspects of our lives as well. For example, MKK’s “wellness” committee teaches and inspires us to make healthy choices. The “reward and recognition” group acknowledges employees’ contributions to the company.

MKK participates in community service activities at least once a quarter such as Race for the Cure, MS Walk, PBS phone bank, and Habitat for Humanity. We also work with other organizations to give back to our community. The “community service” committee keeps these activities in the forefront and organizes the company’s participation.

Professionally, we are very involved with organizations that serve the engineering community; mechanically, electrically and as Consulting Engineers.

Supporting our people, our community and our profession are core elements of MKK’s culture.

Information About the Denver Area and Colorado

Denver is the heart of the metropolitan area of 3,000,000 people. Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Denver is one of America’s most beautiful cities. Denver has 300 days of sunshine a year, with the nations largest city park system, 90 golf courses and 650 miles of paved bike trails.

The Denver area offers all the activities of a major metropolitan area with museums, the second largest performing arts center in the nation, three college campuses, a world class zoo, parks, concerts, a wide variety of restaurants, sporting events and a top of the line amusement park.

Denver was recently voted the number one sports town in America with Invesco Field at Mile High, Coors Field and the Pepsi Center. Denver is one of the few cities in the nation to offer seven professional sports teams: NFL Denver Broncos; Major League Baseball’s Colorado Rockies; NHL Colorado Avalanche; NBA Denver Nuggets; Arena Football’s Colorado Crush; Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids; and National Lacrosse League’s Colorado Mammoth. Denver also offers horse racing, dog racing, a Grand Prix and the National Western, one of the world’s largest rodeos.

Just west of the metro area, the Rocky Mountains offer a multitude of recreational activities. Skiing is plentiful with Vail, Winter Park, Copper Mountain, Steamboat Springs and many other resort areas. Other pastimes include hiking, biking, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, or just taking it easy and enjoying the view.

Housing is available to match many lifestyles. The suburban or rural locations like Douglas, Elbert and Jefferson County are quite pleasant. If a more urban setting is preferred, maybe a loft next to Coors Field in downtown Denver would be the choice. The Denver metropolitan area is home to numerous universities and colleges including the University of Colorado/Metropolitan State College-Auraria Campus with an enrollment of over 20,000. Denver University, Regis University and many other community and business colleges are located nearby.

Information About the Cheyenne Area and Wyoming

Cheyenne is the vibrant capital of Wyoming, and is home to 78,000 people.  Located at the junction of I-25 and I-80, Cheyenne is a transportation hub to trucking companies, the Burlington Northern and Union Pacific railways. Cheyenne is located within 90 minutes of Denver, Fort Collins or Laramie.  This allows for the services of a major metropolitan area to be in easy travel distance while maintaining the charm of a smaller city.

Since inception in 1867, Cheyenne has always been a railroad and military town, but it is also a center for business, education and government. Cheyenne is home to a large private sector based on the government economy as well as large contingents of state, federal and local government.  Cheyenne’s largest employer is F.E. Warren Air Force Base.  The largest private employer is the Union Pacific Railroad.

Recreational opportunities in the Cheyenne area are plentiful with over 600 acres of parks, 14 baseball fields, nine softball fields, 12 tennis courts, five golf courses, and two municipal swimming pools.  Curt Gowdy State Park and Rocky Mountain National Park offer still more opportunities for an active lifestyle.  Cheyenne has an established symphony orchestra as well as a 100-year tradition of hosting Cheyenne Frontier Days, America’s largest outdoor rodeo.  Cheyenne offers both seasonal and year-round activities.  Fishing, hunting, biking, hiking, boating, floating, swimming, camping, golfing and skiing are all available in the city or nearby in recreational areas.

Cheyenne has 300 days of sunshine a year, a reasonably priced housing market, and best of all, Wyoming has no personal state income tax.  Wyoming can keep its taxes low because it has great mineral wealth, permanent investments and efficient government.
