Information About the Cheyenne Area and Wyoming
Cheyenne is the vibrant capital of Wyoming, and is home to 78,000 people. Located at the junction of I-25 and I-80, the city is a transportation hub to trucking companies, the Burlington Northern and Union Pacific railways. Cheyenne is located within 90 minutes of Denver, Fort Collins and Laramie. This allows for the services of a major metropolitan area to be in easy travel distance, while maintaining the charm of a smaller city.
Since its inception in 1867, Cheyenne has always been a railroad and military town, but it is also a center for business, education and government. Cheyenne is home to a large private sector based on the government economy as well as large contingents of state, federal and local government. Cheyenne’s largest employer is F.E. Warren Air Force Base. The largest private employer is the Union Pacific Railroad.
Recreational opportunities in the Cheyenne area are plentiful with over 600 acres of parks, 14 baseball fields, nine softball fields, 12 tennis courts, five golf courses, and two municipal swimming pools. Curt Gowdy State Park and Rocky Mountain National Park offer still more opportunities for an active lifestyle. Cheyenne has an established symphony orchestra as well as a 100-year tradition of hosting Cheyenne Frontier Days, America’s largest outdoor rodeo. Cheyenne offers both seasonal and year-round activities. Fishing, hunting, biking, hiking, boating, floating, swimming, camping, golfing and skiing are all available in the city or nearby in recreational areas.
Cheyenne has 300 days of sunshine a year, a reasonably priced housing market, and best of all, Wyoming has no personal state income tax. Wyoming can keep its taxes low because it has great mineral wealth, permanent investments and efficient government.
