MKK Consulting Engineers Strengthens Leadership Team
Names Two New Associate Principals and Three New Associates
DENVER, (January 23, 2017) – MKK Consulting Engineers, Inc. (MKK), a leading mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and sustainable design firm, is pleased to announce the promotion of two new Associate Principals: Eric Stoerger and Mark Zappanti, and three new Associates: Matthew Campbell, Tom Hootman, and Andrew Nachtrab, to the firm’s leadership team. The expansion of the ownership group enhances MKK’s capacity to continue building long-term relationships as true consultants for our clients, providing solutions that best meet their individual needs, and preserving our mission to, “Consult More. Consume Less.”

After joining the firm in 1999, Eric Stoerger became an Associate in 2010, and was recently elevated to Associate Principal in 2017. Widely recognized as a leader in Educational Facility MEP design, Eric leads MKK’s Education Market Sector, managing projects ranging from elementary school HVAC renovations to new high school campuses. Notable projects include the New Laramie High School Campus, in Wyoming; Salida School District’s Longfellow Elementary School, a Colorado CHPS Verified Leader School; Adams 12 Five Star Schools Anthem PK-8, also pursuing US-CHPS Verified Leader certification; St. Vrain Valley School District’s New Innovation Center, currently in design; Roaring Fork School District Eastbank K-8, currently under construction; and the Boulder Valley School District Creekside Elementary School, currently under construction and tracking LEED Gold equivalency. Eric in a Professional Engineer licensed in Colorado, and earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree from Pennsylvania State University.
Mark Zappanti possesses more than 17 years’ of experience managing and engineering projects in a variety of markets including telecommunications, industrial, commercial, healthcare, municipal, educational, and institutional. His collaborative working style and mentoring skills have been fundamental in the success of the firm, and has led to being named MKK’s Chief Electrical Engineer in 2016, leading the firm’s Electrical Department by promoting the firm’s mission through the effective use of sustainable high performance building consulting and acting as a technical liaison to individuals inside and outside the organization regarding technical design matters. Mark joined MKK in 1999, became an Associate in 2006, and was elevated to Associate Principal in 2017. Mark is the Mission Critical Market Sector leader, working on many Notable Projects for clients including: Xcel Energy, Verizon Wireless, and DirecTV. He is a Professional Engineer licensed in sixteen states including Colorado, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University.
Matthew Campbell is the Senior Business Development Manager with 18 years’ experience in the A/E/C community in both a technical and business development capacity. Matthew contributes to MKK’s overall success by facilitating collaboration between the firm’s Client Project Managers and key clients through strategic partnerships on both a regional and national level. Recognized as the SMPS Colorado 2011 Business Developer of the Year and a Past President of the organization, Matthew is an active participate in various professional organizations, keeping abreast of industry news and trends to develop long-term strategic partnerships. Matthew is a 2003 graduate of the Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Bachelors of Arts. He is most proud of the opportunities MKK has presented him and the success he’s achieved helping clients build their businesses since joining the firm 5 years ago.
Tom Hootman is an architect, engineer and author. As MKK’s Performance + Design Innovation Lead, he works at the visionary intersection of architecture, engineering and performance modeling, and leads MKK’s Innovation Lab. Tom is dedicated to creating value for building owners, occupants and design teams through next generation high performance building innovation. Tom is a pioneer in net zero energy design and has worked on many notable projects including the Research Support Facility at NREL. Through Wiley, he published “Net Zero Energy Design,” the leading book on the topic. Tom is also one of the first WELL Accredited Professional in the nation and is actively working on several WELL Building projects. For Tom, high performance is providing the highest quality environment with the smallest environmental footprint. He earned his Master of Architecture from the University of Utah, and his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Wyoming. Tom is a Licensed Architect in three states including Colorado, a LEED Accredited Professional, and a Provisional WELL Accredited Professional.
Andrew (Andy) Nachtrab, a Mechanical Project Engineer, leads MKK’s Tenant Improvement Market Sector for the mechanical team. He provides unique and innovative solutions for challenging spaces that promote the success of his clients’ buildings, acting as a true consultant by developing a clear understanding of their individual needs, and investing the time to deliver high quality results. Prominent clients include: TD Ameritrade, Regus, Comcast, and 1700 Lincoln in Downtown Denver. His goal is to build long-term relationships with each client by developing a partnership and demonstrating his commitment to their best interest. Andy is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Colorado, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering graduate of Saint Louis University.
