Salida School District New Longfellow Elementary School
The new Longfellow Elementary School replaced an existing, aging facility, with 52,800 SF of sustainable space. The school district’s goal was to achieve certification for exemplary sustainable design through the Colorado Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) program. A requirement of certification was energy modeling to provide the efficiency of the design. Using the energy model developed by MKK, the district was able to select building components and HVAC system types that improved the overall energy efficiency of the building.
