Scottsbluff Public Schools – Scottsbluff High School Addition & Renovation

Scottsbluff High School is a 191,520 SF addition with a 47,880 SF remodel of several classrooms, main gymnasium, locker rooms, and theater areas.  The new addition is a two story classroom wing, new auxiliary gymnasium, commons, kitchen, media center, agricultural and wood shops. The school incorporates new state of the art technology designed around the career academy learning model. The construction phasing of the project was a challenge as the school needed to remain operational during the construction of the new addition and renovation.

MKK performed the HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, lighting, and electrical design. The existing building’s condenser water plant, geothermal field, and electrical infrastructure were maintained and the remodel areas were back fed to ensure the district could utilize the spaces while the new addition was being constructed. MKK provide a new condenser water plant for the facility with the addition of a high efficiency condensing boiler plant and evaporative cooling tower. The new equipment throughout the remodel and new addition is a variable air volume system with energy recovery utilizing heat pumps.

The building is provided with energy saving LED lighting throughout the interior and exterior. The general interior and exterior lighting is controlled by Master lighting digital lighting control system with local override controls for after hour cleaning and maintenance times. Standalone lighting controls are provided in the classrooms, offices, work rooms, storage and restrooms controls and consist of wall and ceiling vacancy type occupancy sensors with local override control. The occupants are protected by a fully addressable fire alarm system with voice evacuation.  Safety and security is provided on the interior and exterior of the building. Egress controls are installed at the doors with card access. Cameras and motion detection are strategically located throughout the facility.
